Tottenham have agreed terms with promising midfield talent George Marsh over a new contract at the club.

The Lilywhites revealed on their official Twitter account and website that the 20-year-old defensive midfielder, who is a graduate of the north Londoners’ academy, has put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him tied to the club until 2021.

Marsh made his competitive first team debut for Spurs back in January 2019, appearing for 25 minutes during their thrashing of Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup.

He has been a regular for the club’s under-23 side and was handed the captain’s armband on occasion.

Opinion

Marsh looks like a good footballer but the time has come for him to really push on and make a mark at Tottenham in a similar way to Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp. Midfield is definitely somewhere Mauricio Pochettino could do with having more options in and if he feels that Marsh has the ability to fill in as backup for the likes of the cup games then he might well be kept on board into next season. However, at 20-years-old there is also the argument that he needs to be playing regular football to help his development and it might well be that the first year of this new Spurs deal is spent elsewhere in the lower reaches of English football. Either way, he is obviously someone who Tottenham think could up his game over the next 48 months and they will be looking forward to seeing him proving his worth to Pochettino. This summer could determine his short term future and so it is important he impresses during the off season.
