Adrian Durham has slammed Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris, suggesting that the Frenchman is “dreadful”.

The World Cup winner wore the armband as Spurs made it all the way to the Champions League final this season, but talkSPORT presenter Durham has blasted his contribution to the side.

Speaking on the station, he said: “Lloris is a dreadful captain.

“Uninspiring choice as captain.

“He’s okay being captain when Griezmann and Mbappe are up the other end of the pitch winning you World Cups – you can make all sorts of errors in the final when they’re there – but when Kane, Dele, and Son need booting up the backside by their captain when they’re losing a Champions League final, Lloris is stuck on his line.”

OPINION

These are harsh words from Durham, and you have to wonder why he is so riled up by the Frenchman. It is true that Lloris has not been at his best this season, but he has by no means had a bad campaign, and when you consider the fact that he has captained his sides to a World Cup win and Champions League final, surely he deserves a little more praise than Durham is giving him here. You can understand if Durham perhaps doesn’t agree with goalkeepers being given the armband. There is certainly a school of thought that your skipper should be out there amongst the action, marshalling his players from the throng of the conflict. But Durham isn’t making any kind of comment on that, instead he has launched a personal attack on Lloris’ ability for no discernible reason. The presenter has a real bee in his bonnet, and it’s particularly clear why.
