Adrian Durham admitted that he thought Tottenham attacker Harry Kane was brilliant before highlighting that the 25-year-old isn’t the fastest player around.

The talkSPORT host said he had no doubts about how good the Spurs forward was but that he couldn’t ignore the fact that he didn’t posses electric pace.

“I think Harry Kane is brilliant, there’s no doubt about it, but he doesn’t have electric pace,” said Durham on talkSPORT (17:22, Thursday June 6th).

Kane scored 24 goals in 40 outings for Spurs in his 2018/19 campaign and contributed six assists as well.

OPINION

This is classic Durham. He praises a Tottenham player for one thing, while undermining them in the next breath. Kane may not be an attacker you’d bet on to win in a foot race, but that hasn’t stopped him being a force in front of goal. If anything Kane not relying on having bundles of pace, surely makes him a player worth even more praise. The 26-year-old simply can’t blitz past defenders due to having a speed advantage, but instead has to use his football intelligence to find a way around them. While that may not make him the greatest attacker to have when playing on the counter-attack, who cares as long as the ball hits the back of net. Also it’s worth pointing out that as Kane doesn’t rely on his speed, he’ll probably be able to dominate the scoring charts for many years to come. As Kane naturally gets older and slower, he’ll already know how to bypass a defender without his speed to call upon. So really, should Durham speak of Kane’s lack of pace as a flaw?
