Tony Cascarino urged Tottenham attacker Harry Kane to be more careful when it comes to flying into tackles.

The pundit shared that the 25-year-old needs to stay on his feet more as he has made unnecessary challenges this season that have led to him having two bad injuries.

“Let’s not kid ourselves, Kane is a fantastic striker with an incredible record of goals, he has still scored a lot of goals this season,” said Cascarino on talkSPORT (8:23am, Saturday June 8th).

“He has had two bad injuries which have cost him seven or eight weeks, so he has had two injury crisis during the course of the season.

“He’ll be fine but there are aspects of his game…he needs to try to keep on his feet, as you think of the challenges he has made and got injured, they are unnecessary.”

Georgie Bingham then shared that she gets judged for saying teams shouldn’t be built around Kane due to his injury record and this led Cascarino to continue expressing his concerns.

Cascarino shared that he thought Kane was reckless at times with his tackles and this led to him coming off worse than the defender he was trying to rob the ball off.

“Yeah I love watching Harry Kane there isn’t another No.9 I would take,” added Cascarino.

“But he has to be concerned about the way he makes challenges, there have been a lot of hard men that have played the game y’know, never really got injured, why? As they chose when to tackle.

“Harry is not a hard man but he does make tackles that are quite reckless and he can come off worse than the defender.”

OPINION

Cascarino is clearly a member of Kane’s fan club and is concerned that the player is causing his own problems, and who can blame him? The 25-year-old forward has a tendency to go flying into tackles like no tomorrow. Kane even made a crunching tackle during England’s 3-1 loss to Netherlands on Thursday even though he didn’t look 100% fit. Imagine if the forward had injured himself in that moment, there would have been cries of frustration from Tottenham supporters everywhere. Kane may have managed to scored 24 goals in 40 outings in his latest campaign and may have a tremendous reputation for recovering quicker than expected when it comes to injuries, however that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be careful. Kane should have a long and fantastic career ahead of him, but needlessly putting himself at risk of getting injured, could jeopardise that future. Hopefully the Spurs forward hears Cascarino’s words and starts acting more responsibility when it comes to trying to win the ball back for his side.
