Southampton have scheduled a medical for Standard Liege winger Moussa Djenepo after agreeing an initial £10million deal for his capture, according to journalist Kristof Terreur

The reputable reporter, who works for Belgian publication HLN, claims on his personal account that the Saints have agreed a deal with the eight-cap Mali international’s club and that he is set for the Premier League following his planned medical.

The 20-year-old was a mainstay for Standard Liege in the 2018/19 season, playing 39 times across all competitions, including in the Europa League, scoring 11 goals and chipping in with a further six assists.

Good move for Southampton?

They might have the likes of Nathan Redmond patrolling the wings but another body out wide will not hurt and at 20-years-old, the Mali ace has plenty of growth and developing to do until he hits his full potential.

A £10million fee is nothing in football any more and you can imagine that there will be other fees on the table which will be triggered based on his performances – a win-win situation for both Southampton, who will not have to pay through the nose if he does not perform, and Standard Liege, who capitalise if he is a success.

He looks an exciting young talent and 11 goals from out wide is a very decent record indeed. The fact three of those came in the Europa League, including two against Sevilla, who finished sixth in La Liga, suggests he can perform at a level higher than the Belgian top flight.

Likely to happen?

It appears as though he will be wearing the red and white stripes sooner rather than later, if the journalist’s information is to be believed.

With a medical scheduled, the only things that can go wrong are if he fails to past those tests or fails to agree personal terms – an unlikely scenario considering how far down the line the deal is said to be.
