For Newcastle United’s supporters they have been concerned for weeks now that the club could end up with nothing in regards to their pursuit of striker Salomon Rondon.

The burly Venezuelan enjoyed a Player of the Year season on loan at St James’ Park from Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion, and is now richly in demand as a result.

However, the Express & Star reported on Saturday that the Magpies’ Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers have made the most ground in talks for the 29-year-old.

Clearly, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have left Newcastle in the dust a bit here. They’ve made some serious hay in their hunt for Rondon, whereas Rafael Benitez’s side seemingly remain stuck in the mud.

The Spaniard himself, who wants to bring the striker back to Tyneside, will surely be worried. The Express & Star’s report states that a return to the north east remains an option for the player, who is currently assessing his options.

But there’s no doubt that Wolves are in pole position at the moment, as they look to provide their number nine Raul Jimenez with genuine competition next season.

The Magpies’ situation remains cloudy at the moment due to the confusion over a potential takeover of the club, which is probably delaying a decision in regards to the Baggies frontman.

However, if Newcastle don’t act fast they are likely to end up losing out on Rondon, a player who outperformed every single one of this teammates this season. Which other Premier League team would allow a talent like that to walk out the door? Still, there remains time…
