Danny Murphy shared he believes Mauricio Pochettino wouldn’t quit Tottenham based on the manager’s recent interviews.

The former Spurs player said that when you read between the lines, it appeared as if Pochettino had been given the reassurances he needed to stay as he had spoken a lot about the future of the club.

Murphy added that he didn’t think Pochettino would walk away from Spurs as a result and highlighted the tremendous bond the Tottenham players have with the manager.

“Reading between the lines of Pochettino’s interviews for me, y’know some people were trying to dig a bit more into it when he said if they won it, he’ll leave, I think now he has had the reassurances,” said Murphy on talkSPORT (9:50am, Sunday June 2nd).

“He’s spoken a lot about the future, he’s spoken a lot about the stadium and the squad, those players have a tremendous bond with Pochettino and I don’t think he’ll be leaving.

“I don’t think he’ll walk away from it.”

OPINION

Murphy’s remarks are exactly what Tottenham fans want to hear after the 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League final. While Pochettino did previously appear to joke that he would leave Spurs if he won the trophy, he said he’d go”home” (as quoted by The Telegraph), others were no doubt concerned that losing the final may seem him walk away. However Murphy appears extremely confident that Pochettino is going nowhere. The former Spurs player points out that while others have read between the lines to suggest an exit is possible, he has analysed Pochettino’s interviews to mean the exact opposite. It is hard to imagine Pochettino quitting Tottenham, as he has worked so hard to build an incredible squad. If the Spurs manager was to walk away without lifting silverware at Spurs, it would seem a questionable decision. Tottenham are clearly close to adding to their trophy cabinet, they did reach the Champions League final after all, so Spurs fans probably should ignore any concerns regarding Pochettino throwing in the towel.
