OPINION
England fell to a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands on Thursday, in what can only be described as a seriously underwhelming Nations’ League semi-final for the Three Lions, but some players seem to be getting a little more stick than others. John Stones was arguably at fault for the second Dutch goal, which came as an unwelcomed moment for the Manchester City fans watching on from home. There were a number of mistakes being made whilst England were trying to play out from the back in the tie, and the most memorable came from the City centre back. The 25-year old has featured 39 times for the Cityzens in all competitions this season, but he seemed to struggle for his international side on Thursday. It seems that there were quite a few City fans watching on in disbelief, who went on to share their views on the player via social media after the mistakes were made, and it’s safe to say they weren’t nice.

Stones needs to cut out small mistakes that keep on halting his progress. He is looking more like Otamendi. He will look great and solid alongside a leader and competent defender like Kompany/Laporte but cannot lead another CB playing alongside him. Need more leadership in him.
