Ray Parlour has said that Matthijs de Ligt would be an “incredible” signing for Liverpool and that he could be “the difference” for Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League.

Liverpool have been linked with a sensational move for the Ajax centre-back, although wages could be an issue.

However, talking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show (talkSPORT, Monday, 7am), Parlour thinks he could be the player who could finally bring the Premier League to Liverpool.

Asked about a move to Anfield Parlour said, “That would be incredible. We’ve seem them go and buy Van Dijk and he’s certainly had a huge impact in the Premier league.

“If they go in for de Ligt as well he could be the difference.”

 OPINION

De Ligt is one of the most in-demand payers in the world at the moment and at just 19-years-old he’s set to be a major force in the world game. He’s already partnering van Dijk in the heart of the Netherlands defence so a move to Liverpool would seemingly make a lot of sense. But do Liverpool really need him? According to the Mirror they would have to smash their wage structure to bring him in and make him the highest paid player in the Anfield dressing room. That could potentially cause a rift with players like Mohammed Salah and Liverpool might have to offer similar hikes to other players. Liverpool’s defence was brilliant this season and Joel Matip stepped up to the plate next to van Dijk. There’s no question that de Ligt would be a significant upgrade but he could come with risk and at a huge cost. We’re not convinced that Liverpool should be spending that sort of money on him.
