Newcastle United striker Joselu has agreed personal terms with Alaves with the Spaniard on the verge of leaving St James’ Park, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet claim on their website that the 6’3″ colossus (source: Transfermarkt) has come to an agreement over a long term contract with the La Liga side and all that remains is an agreement with the Magpies.

It is stated that Alaves want Newcastle to let him cut short his contract on Tyneside to see him leave for a free but despite negotiations still ongoing Mundo Deportivo state that Joselu’s move is not far from being completed.

Opinion

There will not be many tears shed at St James’ Park as and when Joselu does eventually leave. A hard worker who gave his everything up front, he simply lacked the required attacking quality to really make a difference and a move away is best for both parties. Newcastle desperately need an improvement on the Spaniard in their squad while the striker needs to be playing much more regularly than he was during the 2018/19 season, Salomon Rondon quite rightly taking over as Rafael Benitez’s first choice up front. He might not have been a favourite of the Tyneside faithful and there might well be a few celebrating his departure, but his signing was simply an example of everything wrong with the club under Mike Ashley. A lack of transfer spend resulted in a lack of quality up front. Maybe his departure can be the start of a new chapter for the Toon Army, who desperately deserve better than Joselu playing up front for them.
