Darren Gough cheekily claimed Arsenal duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette would make Tottenham a better team if they were brought into replace Harry Kane.

The talkSPORT pundit made the absurd remarks to show how much he disagreed with a fan who called into suggest that Spurs should sell Kane as Heung-Min Son was a better forward.

The Spurs fan made the suggestion after Adrian Durham and Gough were discussing how great it would be if the club pursued someone like Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe, only for the retired English cricketer to point out Spurs didn’t make big-money signings like that.

“Could you imagine if Kane, they sold him and got £150million and then bring in Lacazette and Aubameyang from Arsenal…” said Gough on talkSPORT (17:52, Thursday June 13th).

“Would it make them better by getting the two Arsenal centre-forwards? Would it? Probably make them (Gough noticeable laughed) a better team realistically.

“So I get what you’re saying about Kane being sold but to say he is rubbish and Son is better…”

OPINION

Gough claiming that the Arsenal duo would make Tottenham a better team was clearly a dig at those who think Spurs do better without Kane. When the 25-year-old Spurs forward had two notable spells on the sidelines due to injury in his 2018/19 campaign, many seemed impressed with how the club coped without him. After all Spurs did manage to overcome Ajax in the semi-final of the Champions League without having Kane to call upon, and obviously that has led some to think Mauricio Pochettino’s side are better without him. However Kane scored 24 goals and assisted six in the 40 outings he made in his 2018/19 campaign and it’s clear that if he left anytime soon, Spurs would miss him. While Son, who a Spurs fan bizarrely claimed was a better forward than Kane, did do amazingly well when the Englishman was injured; that doesn’t mean he is suddenly a better centre-forward than his teammate. Son is better suited playing on the wings, and it says so much that Gough was so taken back by the fans view, he made a cheeky comment using Arsenal players to share how absurd he thought the remark was.
