Darren Gough couldn’t stop laughing after a Tottenham fan suggested Spurs could afford to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain by simply giving them Christian Eriksen in return.

A Tottenham fan called into talkSPORT to suggest that Spurs would be able to sign the 20-year-old forward for nothing by simply giving PSG Eriksen in return for the Frenchman’s services.

Gough simply couldn’t believe what he was hearing and had to take a moment to fully comprehend what the fan suggested.

“What?” said Gough on talkSPORT (17:27, June 13th) after a Spurs fan suggested Eriksen be given to PSG for Mbappe.

Adrian Durham then asked what Gough was “laughing” at as he noticeably started to chuckle and the former English cricketer explained why.

“It’s just the way he said give erm Eriksen that’s £70million and then it will cost us nothing getting Mbappe and it would actually cost you another £130million plus £400,000-a-week mate,” added Gough.

OPINION

Durham had started a debate on talkSPORT on Thursday centred around Mbappe as he could understand why Premier League clubs weren’t trying to sign him. The broadcaster even went as far as to say that now was the perfect time for Spurs to sign a superstar like Mbappe as they hadn’t spent in the last two windows.  Yet given that Tottenham are not notorious big spenders, then it’s understandable why a Tottenham fan called in to suggest how the club could get Mbappe without spending a huge amount of money. However considering that Mbappe scored 20 goals and assisted 17 in 43 outings for PSG last season and is still only 20-years-old, then it’s no wonder Gough laughed at them for thinking swapping Eriksen for Mbappe would be a fair trade. Mbappe, who earns £290,000-a-week (Source: Daily Mail/ L’Equipe), would be a fantastic signing for Spurs but it would cost them Eriksen plus a significant sum to even have PSG consider selling him, as after all the 20-year-old is arguably among the best players in the world currently.
