Everton are in talks to sign Lyon attacker Bertrand Traore, according to L’Equipe.

The French outlet claim that the Toffees are in discussions with the Ligue 1 club about the 23-year-old winger and that the French side could possibly consider selling him to Marco Silva’s side if they table a significant offer.

L’Equipe report that Traore saw his playing time at Lyon reduced in the final months of the season, with his popularity among fans also dropping, due to his failure to keep possession.

Good move for Everton?

It depends on his price as the Toffees could benefit from having a new winger on their books who is a constant goal threat.

However it’s likely that the 23-year-old won’t come cheap.

L’Equipe claim the Toffees would need to table a significant offer to tempt them into selling, while  the Daily Mail previously reported in May that the French giant wanted around £40million in order to sell him.

While Traore’s form may have dipped near the end of his 2018/19 campaign, given that he was involved in 16 goals in his latest season then Lyon are more than entitled to hold out for that mouthwatering amount as someone is bound to rate him equally as highly.

The 23-year-old, who scored 11 goals while registering five assists in his latest campaign, could be what the Toffees need to boost their firepower but he won’t come cheap.

Likely to happen?

Based on the fact L’Equipe don’t seem confident that Lyon will go all out to keep Traore and that the Toffees are in talks about signing him, then there’s a chance the 23-year-old will arrive at Goodison Park this summer.

When you consider that only two Everton players got above double-digits when it came to goals in their 2018/19 season, then having another capable of being clinical in front of goal is necessary.
