Everton made a £24.5million bid for AS Roma attacker Cengiz Under but were told that the offer was too low to accept, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian website claim that the Toffees had repeatedly shown interest in the 21-year-old winger before submitting their bid, but received a negative response.

Tutto Mercato Web report doesn’t state whether Marco Silva’s side will try again but the Daily Express previously reported that Roma valued Under as being worth £50million in December.

Good move for Everton?

Sort of.

It’s good to hear that the Toffees are targeting players who can boost their firepower ahead of next season, but they seemed to be wasting their time by bidding such a low amount.

Under was involved in 17 goals in his 2018/19 campaign for Roma, he scored six while assisting 11, and it’s easy to imagine him having similar success at Goodison Park.

The 21-year-old has a very respectable amount of pace in his locker and is the type of player who loves to cut inside and leave goalkeepers shaking by firing powerful shots at them from distance.

However if the Toffees are keen enough on him to bid at least north of £35million, which is still on the low side when you consider the current transfer market, why bother.

Likely to happen?

No.

The Toffees have seen their bid shot down by Roma and who can blame him.

The 21-year-old had an impressive 2018/19 campaign and is still relatively young, so they can demand a high price for him.

Given Everton were way wide of the mark with their opening offer, you can’t see them being able to sign Under anytime soon.

However when you consider the fact they’ve tried to sign him, you can’t completely rule them out.
