Alan Brazil claimed he had heard that Everton defender Phil Jagielka was in talks with Celtic over potentially joining the club.

The talkSPORT host said he had heard the 36-year-old centre-back was possibly discussing a move to Neil Lennon’s side and urged him to join the club.

“Talking of Jagielka, I hear he is in talks with Celtic, maybe heading to Parkhead,” said Brazil on talkSPORT (8:56am, Friday June 7th).

“Go on Phil, do it!”

The Scottish Sun previously reported that Celtic were pursuing the services of Jagielka after Everton confirmed that the enforcer would be leaving at the end of June.

OPINION

It’s hard to know if Brazil has truly heard that Jagielka is in talks with Celtic or has read the Scottish Sun’s report and jumped the gun. As the broadcaster does appear to backtrack by saying the player maybe discussing moving to Parkhead. If Jagielka is having an form of communication with Celtic, it surely is about joining them as what else would they be discussing. Aside from Brazil’s sources being dubious on this occasion, it’s clear he wants Jagielka at the Hoops next season, and who can blame him. The 36-year-old centre-back would be a tremendous signing for Celtic to make as the defender comes with a wealth of experience. Jagielka has played 360 times in the Premier League and you don’t make that many appearances in such a quality division without being a very good player. While the centre-back’s best years may be behind him, it’s still worth Celtic signing him.
