Former Aston Villa striker Darren Bent has given his verdict on his former club’s recent signing of Jota.

The Villans announced on Wednesday via their official website that they had signed Jota from Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee.

Former Villa man Bent was quick to share his opinion on the club’s new attacker, and praised the striker ahead of his first ever season in England’s top flight.

“I really like Jota, I played against him at Brentford and he impressed me,” said Bent on Sky Sports News (Friday 7th June, 09:53).

“But to go from Birmingham to Villa, that’s a toughie.

“For me, he doesn’t score enough goals, but he always creates,

“He’s a real good signing for Aston Villa, I think they’ve got a good one there.”

OPINION

Jota signing for Villa after playing for Birmingham City was always going to be a controversial move, for both parties, however it seems that Bent has seen the positives from the move. The former Villa man seems to think that this is decent move for Villa, and although he suggested that the Spaniard does not score enough goals, he thinks that he creates a lot, which will certainly come in handy in the Premier League. It may be tough for Jota in the top flight however, considering the winger only managed to score three goals and register nine assists in all competitions last season for Birmingham, which arguably would need to be more to warrant a move to the Premier League. The 27-year old could prove to be an effective signing for Dean Smith’s side, however on paper it seems like he may have just fall short of what it takes for a winger to be successful in the Premier League, which would be shame for Villa fans if that’s the case.
