Alan Brazil claimed Celtic were a bigger club than Chelsea after being put on the spot by Dean Saunders.

The former Aston Villa player asked Brazil whether Celtic were bigger than Chelsea in his opinion after he had come under fire for claiming the Villans were traditionally a bigger club than the Blues.

Brazil hesitated before saying Celtic were definitely a bigger club but admitted if you were currently a footballer, you’d choose to play for Chelsea rather than the Hoops.

“Erm Celtic,” said Brazil on talkSPORT (8:35am, Tuesday June 4th).

“But if you were a player now who would you want to play for, Chelsea or Celtic? You’d go to Chelsea wouldn’t you.”

OPINION

Chelsea really had the size of their club questioned on Tuesday morning radio, and it seem to be unfair. For some reason Saunders and Brazil opted to compare clubs with Chelsea, after originally starting to discuss how Aston Villa would fare in the Premier League. Saunders clearly thought he could cover up the criticism he was likely getting from Chelsea supporters for saying Villa were bigger, by throwing Brazil under the bus by asking him to compare Celtic to the London club. However it backfired, as Brazil responded in the best way possible. The radio host stuck to his guns about the Hoops being bigger, but held his hands up that Chelsea were the ones who were currently more attractive to players. Celtic fans will no doubt appreciate him ranking their club higher and will no doubt agree that players are currently more willing to go to Stamford Bridge. The English Premier League is a more appealing prospect then Scotland’s top-flight due to the attention it gets, and Chelsea have just won the Europa League.
