Aston Villa executive Christian Purslow was seen in the Wembley stands telling Chelsea-owned attacker Tammy Abraham to stay at the club after Dean Smith’s side won promotion to the Premier League, according to the Daily Mirror.

The national newspaper claim that the senior Villans figure was seen imploring the 21-year-old to stay at the club within minutes of the Villans beating Derby County 2-1 in the Championship play-off final.

The Mirror report that a fee of £25million has been mooted for Abraham and that Chelsea will allow the forward to return to Villa Park if Smith’s side agree to sign him permanently.

The Telegraph previously stated that the Villans would make a club-record £25million approach for Abraham after his successful loan spell at the club.

OPINION

This report is a welcomed-boost for any Villans fan who is hoping to see Abraham at Villa Park on a full-time basis next season. Not only do the Mirror claim that Chelsea are open to selling the forward to the Villans but it shows how keen Purslow is to get the player back at the club. Given that the senior figure was seen telling Abraham to stay, then it seems very likely the club will splash the cash on him. The 21-year-old attacker scored 26 goals in 42 outings while on loan at the Villans in his 2018/19 campaign and became a fan favourite as a result. As after all every supporter loves a clinical forward who is effectively able to rack up points for their side. While Abraham’s form did drop off in the tail-end of the season and while there are doubts he can cut in the Premier League, after being such a huge part of the Villans’ promotion-winning season, everything should be done to sign him. The reason why there should and are doubts about Abraham being Premier League quality is because he has only managed five goals in the top-flight despite making 33 appearances.
