Tony Cascarino shared that he thought it was strange what had happened to Aston Villa defender Micah Richards.

The pundit revealed that he thought the 30-year-old right-back once had the world at his feet but once he went to Villa, you literally forgot he was still playing football.

“Micah Richards just disappeared, the lad that was a Manchester City player, international, looked like he had the world at his feet…went to Italy to play his football,” said Cascarino on talkSPORT (9:42am, Saturday June 8th).

“Came back and went to Villa and you literally forgot he was playing football, Micah Richards, which was a strange one.”

Georgie Bingham then added that Aston Villa are probably just happy to have him off their wage books and Cascarino concurred.

OPINION

Aston Villa previously confirmed via their official website that Richards was one of eight players set to leave Villa Park once his contract expires. The right-back’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June, and it’s hard to feel too sorry that he is leaving. Richards has hardly kicked a ball in recent seasons, he didn’t make one appearances for the Villans in their 2018/19 campaign, and it’s hard to know what’s next for the defender. It’s hard to see any team moving quickly to offer the 30-year-old a chance to play for them, given his lack of football in recent years, and you feel this could be the end of the road for him. While Richards hasn’t been helped by injury problems, he did seem to lose his way due to simply not being good enough as well. It will be interesting to see what is next for the 30-year-old, however just like Bingham and Cascarino stated; the Villans probably are just thankful he isn’t set to be on their wage bill much longer.
