Nixon: West Brom will have manager by end of the week

|

West Brom are expected to appoint their new manager by the end of this week, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The Baggies are still looking for a new permanent manager after former interim boss James Shan left the post following the club’s defeat to Aston Villa in the Championship play-offs.

Previous reports have suggested that ex-West Ham boss Slaven Bilic [Daily Mirror] and Bruno Labadia [Express & Star] said to be in the running to take over at the Hawthorns.

Nixon posted on his personal Twitter account that, in any case, an announcement is expected to be made by Monday.

OPINION

If Nixon’s report is true, it will come as very relieving news for West Brom fans. There has been so much uncertainty about who it could be, and fans will want someone appointed so the speculation can stop. At first, Chris Hughton was linked before Labbadia entered the frame. It is only in the last day or so that Bilic is a name to have cropped up, and he now seems to be one of the favourites for the post. Whoever it is, they have some job on their hands. The Baggies placed a big onus on loan signings in their efforts to get promoted last season – with the likes of Harvey Barnes and Dwight Gayle performing brilliantly – but now that they are gone, there is not much stability at the Hawthorns. Whoever comes in will have a job on their hands to get some decent permanent signings in who can help the club have another real crack at promotion.
