Liverpool are looking to loan out reported Aston Villa target Ryan Kent this summer, rather than allow him to leave on a permanent deal, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter took to his personal Twitter account on Sunday to deliver an update on Aston Villa’s attempts to sign Kent in response to a supporter, writing: “Liverpool would prefer to loan him now. Aston Villa can only take two loans in the Premier League.”

Aston Villa are interested in securing a permanent move for Kent this summer, following the winger’s impressive form on loan at Rangers last season, according to the Scottish Sun.

OPINION

Nixon’s latest update appears to have somewhat cast doubt over Aston Villa’s ability to sign Kent from Liverpool this summer, with Dean Smith’s side likely to be wanting to use their permitted loan signings on other players during the transfer window. Therefore, with Liverpool believed to be now preferring a loan for the 22-year-old this summer, instead of allowing him to leave Anfield on a permanent basis, it suggests that Villa might need to move onto other targets to strengthen their wide positions ahead of their first campaign back in the Premier League. Kent would have been a useful addition for Smith’s side next term and could have provided a bit of extra quality in the final third of the pitch, but it now appears that unless Liverpool’s stance changes, the winger might not be making the move to Villa Park this summer. However, there is still the possibility that Villa will opt to sign him on loan, but that would limit their options of signing other players on a loan deal this summer.
