Danny Mills has heaped praise on West Ham midfielder Declan Rice and believes that he could be an ideal signing for some of the best teams in the Premier League.

Rice established himself as a regular at the heart of West Ham’s midfield last season under Manuel Pellegrini, with the midfielder starting 34 Premier League games last term, as he also made his mark with the England national team earning his first few caps.

Mills was full of praise for Rice following his performances this season and has suggested that the midfielder could be a useful addition for a few of the Premier League’s top clubs.

“He is a fabulous talent with a massive future ahead of him. He is young and still has lots to learn, as he’s not played much Champions League football or much international football,” Mills told the Football Insider.

“He has to go through that learning process, but I’ve no doubt about him in the slightest. He’d be the perfect signing for so many clubs looking at getting a midfielder this summer.

“You could see him playing alongside N’Golo Kante in the Chelsea midfield. Could he improve Arsenal? Yes. He’d walk into the Arsenal team. Could he replace Fernandinho at Manchester City in the future? Without a shadow of a doubt.”

OPINION

Mills is right to suggest that Rice would be able to improve the midfield’s of the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, and he could even be a suitable option to replace Fernandinho at Manchester City in the next few years. That is something which will be a concern to the Hammers, with other clubs likely to be interested in signing the 20-year-old in the forthcoming transfer windows. West Ham can not allow young and promising players such as Rice to leave the London Stadium, if they are going to establish themselves higher up the Premier League table under Pellegrini in the next few years. The midfielder, though, will only improve from what he has already shown in the last campaign, which will make it even harder for the Hammers to hang onto him, but the club must do all they can to ensure he remains at the London Stadium for the next few years. West Ham supporters will hope that the clubs Mills has suggested do not make a move for Rice this summer.
