Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie could be sent out on loan this summer, according to Football Insider.

The 6’3″ colossus made 31 appearances for the Gers this season, and is understood to be highly thought of by manager Steven Gerrard.

At 21, he has yet to establish himself as a regular starter at Ibrox, and with the recent wave of arrivals in midfield, the concern will be that his game time next season could be limited.

As such, a loan may be sought to continue his development.

OPINION

This seems like a smart move. There is no doubting McCrorie’s potential, but he is still young, and has an awful lot to learn. The best way for him to do that is to play regular first team football, and the reality of the situation is that he is unlikely to do that at Ibrox next term. Sending him out on loan would be no reflection on him as a player, or for that matter how Gerrard views his future at the club. In fact, there is even an argument that sending him out on loan shows that the manager rates him highly. Allowing him to sit on the bench every week would perhaps shows that Gerrard did not believe McCrorie has the potential to grow and develop much further. By letting him go out an play football, Gerrard would be showing that he believes not only that McCrorie has a long way to go, but also that he is capable of getting there.
