Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has said that Leeds United loanee Mallik Wilks is in high demand this summer after his impressive loan spell at the Keepmoat Stadium

The 20-year-old, who has just one senior appearance under his belt at Elland Road to date, spent last season on loan with the League One club and helped them reach the semi finals of the third tier play-offs, eventually losing to promoted outfit Charlton.

With 16 goals to his name, the forward’s manager out on loan was left raving over their efforts and insisted that the exciting youngster is going to be wanted by a number of sides this summer.

He told Leeds Live: “Hopefully we can build a decent reputation for ourselves, and have a look at what Mallik and Herbie did here.

“These two boys came in and no one knew them, everyone was wondering what to expect.

“They went from strength to strength and now everyone is after them, it gives you a sense of pride in the job.”

Opinion

Wilks looks to be good enough for League One and the question on everyone’s lips at Elland Road will be is he good enough to do the business in the Championship? The Whites were lacking in options up front at times, fellow youngster Tyler Roberts Marcelo Bielsa’s third choice behind Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe at times. You can be sure the Argentine will be looking at him during the early stages of pre-season, figuring out if he has got the talent, temperament and ability to make a difference to his squad. If so, then he will be able to add to his one appearance for the first team next season. If not, it sounds as though he will not find it hard to secure another move away from Elland Road, be that on loan or permanently. It is about time he starts making an impact among the senior side so maybe he should be feeling a little bit of pressure ahead of his return to training at Thorp Arch.
