Marseille are considering a move for Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper says that the Ligue 1 club, which sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old last season, have now marked him as a priority target in their summer investment plans.

The France Under-21 international was a key part of the Hoops team last term, making 37 appearances despite being injured at times.

The newspaper adds, however, that Celtic would be in a strong position should negotiations begin for Ntcham, who signed a contract extension last summer that runs until the summer of 2022.

OPINION

It would be no surprise to see Ntcham leave Celtic for a different club this summer. Despite making 37 appearances in all competitions and being involved in seven goals – scoring six times and assisting once – his progress has been hampered by injuries and the extension he signed last summer looks like it could come to an abrupt end and be a waste of ink. A report earlier in this month claimed that Celtic were prepared to offload Ntcham for half of what they paid for him, which shows just how much they want to get rid of him. What’s more, he has come in for criticism from the likes of Jackie McNamara, who said that he would not be surprised to see him go. Overall, there is little chance of Ntcham staying around and it would be better for the player – as well as for Celtic – to get him off the books completely, and use the money to invest in someone better.
