OPINION
Many Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to rumours that the club are interested in signing West Brom striker Jay Rodriguez. A report from the Daily Mirror’s live transfer blog [Wednesday, 17:37] claimed that the 29-year-old is available for £5million this summer due to a clause in the one-year extension he signed with the Baggies at the end of the 2017/18 season. The clause also states that interested clubs must pay an extra £5million next summer. These Aston Villa fans are spot on: Rodriguez would be a fantastic backup striker, and for £5million, he is definitely worth that fee. He scored 22 goals in the Championship for the Baggies last term, and he is a proven goalscorer. He is unlikely to force his way into the starting lineup if he does sign for Dean Smith’s men, but he is a fantastic second-choice to have around. This is definitely a move that Villa should pursue this summer.
I’ll Take As Backup Striker. I Know Our Fans Won’t Except Him Because his Goal Against Us Last Season. But Surely He Will Be Good BackUp Striker And Only For £5M!

£5mil for striker who’s played in the prem & for England … sometimes you gotta put the disliking aside, that’s a snip.

Yes we didn’t like him but for 5m? Be a great squad player and backup for a main striker.

Good player, cheap and has played in the league. Also does what it takes to win. Need that attitude in the squad. No brainer As the cheap option of 2 new strikers, frees up funds for a marquee #avfc
