Leeds United have made a formal offer to sign Ryan Kent on loan from Liverpool but are set to be rejected by the attacker, according to Goal.

The news outlet claims that Kent, 22, would rather stay put at Anfield and fight for a spot in Jurgen Klopp’s first team or seek a permanent move away from the Merseyside club rather than go out on loan again after temporary spells at Rangers, Barnsley, Coventry, Bristol City and Freiburg in the last few years.

It is understood that Leeds’ offer for Kent was only to sign him on a temporary basis but Goal adds that if the Whites manage to offload Jack Clarke this summer, they could return to the table with a permanent offer for the ex-Rangers loanee.

OPINION

It is not hard to see why Leeds want to sign Kent. He was the young player of the year in Scotland last season as he shone for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, scoring six goals and supplying nine assists in 43 appearances across all competitions. While there is better quality opposition in the Championship than there is in the Scottish Premiership, Kent showcased at times that he is too good for the Scottish top-flight and would be better suited playing for a top-end Championship club or a team in the Premier League. Leeds need to add some wide players to their squad this summer, but Financial Fair Play restrictions may mean that they will have to make the most of the loan market. Unless they sell Clarke for big money, it seems unlikely that they will be able to lure Kent away from Merseyside before the start of the 2019/20 season.
