Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has suggested that he could use his opportunity with Northern Ireland to impress other teams ahead of the summer transfer window.

Peacock-Farrell started last season as Leeds’ number one keeper, but following a loss of form around Christmas with the Whites top of the Championship table Marcelo Bielsa elected to sign Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid in January, with the Spaniard becoming the club’s first choice until the end of the campaign.

The 22-year-old is heading into the final year of his current contract at Elland Road, and has raised doubts over his future after suggesting that he might leave if he is not given more game time.

Peacock-Farrell has now suggested that he could use his potential opportunity with the Northern Ireland side to attempt to impress any potential suitors.

“Every single game is a shop window. I might get tested more, but you see what it did for Michael McGovern, he got his move to Norwich off the back of an unbelievable game against Germany in Euro 2016, a great tournament in fact,” Peacock-Farrell told the media ahead of his involvement with Northern Ireland, as quoted by Leeds Live.

“Those are the situations that can help you as a footballer. It comes down to how you perform.”

OPINION

Peacock-Farrell’s future at Elland Road appears to be in doubt this summer, and the 22-year-old does not seem to be too willing to end any potential speculation over his future. The goalkeeper would have been disappointed with Bielsa’s decision to drop him during the second half of last season, with Leeds’ form also dipping after Christmas as the Whites ended up missing out on promotion to the Premier League. The Northern Ireland international’s latest comments suggest that he could be looking to make other sides who could be interested aware of his current situation. Leeds will not be wanting to lose the services of a promising player such as Peacock-Farrell, but if Bielsa is going to have the keeper as his back up at the start of next season the 22-year-old might decide it is time to leave Elland Road.
