Leeds fans might have been fearing the worst when it was reported that former Championship rivals Aston Villa wanted to sign Kalvin Phillips.

However, the latest report will fill them full of cheer as the Sun reports they want £30million for their standout midfielder.

Alan Nixon, writing in the Sun, claims this is double what Villa will pay and he says the stance has left them “frustrated”.

They say every player has a price and Leeds have named theirs for a player who wants to stay at Elland Road.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa reportedly wants Phillips to stay, with the 23-year-old said to be “central to his plans” and this price tag should ensure that happens.

Phillips had a brilliant season for Leeds, despite having to deputise at centre-back for 13 Championship games.

Stan Collymore said Villa could do with a player who offers “legs, physicality and discipline” in midfield. However, the Leeds stance should ensure this doesn’t happen.

Leeds fans seem resigned to the fact that their club will move on at least one player this summer but plenty would prefer that to be Jack Clarke than Phillips.

The Sun have reported that Clarke is on the brink of an £8.5million move to Tottenham and while fans might have something to say about the price for their youngster, they’ll be delighted that the club seems to be thinking the same way as they do.
