OPINION
Premier League fixture day is always a bit of strange one. If we’re being honest, it means very little. There are 20 teams in the division, all of whom have to play each other twice, so it’s hardly a revelation to find out the exact specifics of the arrangement. That being said, a lot of importance is attached to the announcement, with fans calculating how many points they should have picked up by a certain date, and philosophising on just how damaging their run in could be. Sometimes, however, it’s the little subplots that the fixture listings throw up that can be the best part of the day. Take for instance Newcastle United against Norwich City, the second game of each side’s season. On the face of it, it’s probably nothing too special, but look a little closer and you see that it throws up a reunion between the Magpies and their former goalkeeper Tim Krul. The Dutchman was a firm favourite on Tyneside during his spell in the north east, and he was quick to take to Twitter to tell fans just how excited he was to come up against the “mad Geordies”. Safe to say, the Toon Army are just as excited about facing their former stopper.
Amazing fixtures to start the season .. Easy 6 points .. champions league winners and the mad geordies ??????. #excited #cantwait #FixtureReleaseDay
