Phil Hay has suggested that Bailey Peacock-Farrell will be offered a new deal by Leeds United this summer.

The Northern Irishman, who played just once in the league since January, spoke out about his situation at the club on Thursday evening, as reported by PA Sport journalist Wayne Gardiner, claiming that he may be forced to leave the club if he is not given more game time.

But Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay has suggested that United are planning to hand him a new contract.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Leeds intending to offer BPF a new deal this summer but not a surprise that he wants to play regularly.”

OPINION

This has the makings of being a very interesting situation at Leeds this summer. Peacock-Farrell is a player who has the potential to be very good for United in the future, and could arguably feel aggrieved to have been given the boot from the starting line up in January. Kiko Casilla came in and didn’t exactly set the world alight, but he was Bielsa’s go to man, and that leaves a lot of questions to be answered during the current transfer window. Clearly, Leeds want the stopper to stay, but would he turn down a new deal if Casilla were to stay? And even if the Spaniard does go, which he could given his wage, would Bielsa trust Peacock-Farrell to take the number one jersey? It’s difficult to say, but after his latest comments, don’t be surprised if the youngster ends up leaving Elland Road during the current window.
