Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes has accepted Everton’s offer of a contract worth £6.2million-a-year, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news outlet claims that while Gomes, 25, has agreed personal terms to join the Blues on a permanent deal, the Merseyside club remains locked in negotiations with Barcelona about a transfer fee.

It is understood that the deal will eventually cost over £25million, with Barcelona keen to receive £30million for the Portugal international.

Good move for Everton?

Gomes was superb for the Toffees last season so it is no surprise to see Marco Silva and Marcel Brands trying to sign the central midfielder on a permanent basis.

While the move for Gomes is definitely looking like an expensive one, it is better for the Merseyside club to be spending big money on someone who has been tried and tested for them in the Premier League rather than someone who has never touched England’s top-flight before.

Everton fans will surely be thrilled with this news because Gomes was one of their best players last term and looks set to be able to continue that form in 2019/20, as long as a fee is agreed with Barcelona.

Likely to happen?

It seems like it is just a matter of time before Everton agree a transfer fee with Barca.

Now that he has reportedly agreed a £120,000-a-week deal, that could force the Catalan giants into selling him.

Even if Everton do have to go as high as £30million to sign Gomes, it is still a good deal for them.
