Last season was a contrasting season, to say the least for West Ham – from starting the campaign and breaking their transfer record twice after deals were completed for Issa Diop and Felipe Anderson, the Hammers only managed to scrape a top half finish in the Premier League.
Many West Ham fans will have expected a lot more from their club but had to settle for that finish after a season full of inconsistencies on the pitch from their side.
After spending so much money in the transfer window and improving their side massively, co-chairman David Gold would have expected at least a top-eight finish, but failure to get that hasn’t put Gold off after he insisted on his personal Twitter account, that he believes his club are capable of a top-six Premier League spot.
Replying to a question on Twitter, Gold said: “There are many people at the club who believe we can finish in the top-six”.
We can see your vineyard from my house and we love your sparkling wines. There are many people at the club who believe we can finish in the top six good luck. dg https://t.co/SulJootk9s

West Ham fans will no doubt love the confidence and ambition from their joint-owner, but they have to be realistic and see the bigger picture – they are miles away from a top-six finish and it will take many more improvements in the transfer window before this dream becomes a reality.
The signing of marquee players will only help, so the introduction of Anderson was a brilliant start, and if the club can keep hold of Diop for years to come then they can certainly build a team around the Frenchman that is certainly capable of aiming for much more than mid-table.
David Gold must put his words into action if he wants this dream to happen, with the London Stadium faithful expecting big things after his latest admission.
