Everton manager Marco Silva is set to be reunited with former Premier League star and current coach Luis Boa Morte as he appoints him as his assistant at Goodison Park, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 41-year-old, currently assistant manager at Maccabi Haifa, is set to take on the same role with the Toffees, sealing a reunion with Silva after their time at Sporting Lisbon together.

It is stated Boa Morte will sign a two year deal with Everton to fall in line with Silva’s deal, having become friends with the Portuguese boss when working as their side’s under-19s coach, and he will take the place of Joao Pedro Sousa.

Opinion

Boa Morte is a man with a lot of Premier League experience and so it makes perfect sense that, after experiencing what it is like to be a coach and an assistant manager, he would return to England’s top flight. He is most importantly someone who Silva seems to admire and trust and it will be interesting to see the sort of impact he can have on the Toffees from the dugout. He may well have played against some of the more experienced Premier League stars out there, having left England back in 2011, but it will be a mostly new challenge for him to take on. Silva’s first season in charge at Goodison Park was not entirely smooth sailing and having your assistant manager leave has the potential to unsteady the ship even further. He will be hoping Boa Morte’s presence nullifies the impact of the change and helps the Toffees to success next season.
