Everton could be on their way to making a top addition to their defence with reported contact made in their pursuit of Getafe centre-back Djené Daknoman.

According to the Daily Mail, the Toffees have made an enquiry about the 27-year-old defender, who has been a “long-term” target for Premier League rivals Arsenal.

It seems like Everton are ready to press on in their bid to sign the Togo international after it was previously reported by Spanish news outlet Marca that the Merseyside club is ready to make an offer.

Djené has had a superb season in La Liga for Getafe, helping the Madrid-based club finish in a surprise fifth place.

He made 38 appearances in all competitions for Getafe in the 2018/19 campaign and contributed massively to a defense that conceded less goals than Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Spanish top-flight.

Everton, who lost Kurt Zouma at the end of the season when he went back to parent club Chelsea, need to sign a new centre-back this summer and Djené would be a great replacement for the Frenchman.

However it may be a costly deal for Djené as it is understood he has a release clause in his contract worth £31.1million and Getafe, understandably, are not willing to let him leave the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez for any less than that.

If the Toffees really want to strengthen themselves this summer and launch a serious bid to gatecrash the Premier League’s top-six then they need to start by building a solid defence.

Djené has performed near-miracles at Getafe to get them where they finished last season, so why could he not help Everton do the same?
