Everton and West Ham are in negotiations to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen this summer, according to Sport.

The Spanish news outlet claims that Barca want over £17.8million for the 30-year-old, who they are willing to cash in on before the start of next season.

It is understood that Cillessen has also attracted attention from Valencia and Benfica, but Everton and West Ham are currently said to be leading the way for the Netherlands international.

Sport adds that Everton could lose “their goalkeeper” – presumably Jordan Pickford – this summer and want to wrap up a deal for Cillessen “as soon as possible”.

The report also says that there “could be important news” related to the shot-stopper’s future at the Nou Camp next week.

Good move for Everton?

Unless Pickford leaves Goodison Park, Everton do not need to try and sign Cillessen, especially when Barcelona are wanting around £18million or more for the former Ajax shot-stopper.

He is a decent goalkeeper but has been down the pecking order at Barcelona and only made 11 appearances across all competitions for the La Liga giants last term.

The 30-year-old played mainly in the Copa Del Rey, but was in goals when Barca lost 2-1 in the final against Valencia.

Is Cillessen an upgrade on Pickford? He definitely isn’t better than the England international, so the Toffees would not be making a good addition here.

Likely to happen?

This report seems odd.

West Ham have already signed two goalkeepers this summer and also have Lukasz Fabianski, so why would they want Cillessen as well?

Also there is a very low chance that Pickford would leave Everton and Cillessen is hardly an upgrade on the ex-Sunderland man.

It’s likely that there is nothing in this.
