Everton’s attempts to sign Andre Gomes on a permanent deal are “very advanced”, according to Sport journalist Albert Roge.

The Portuguese international spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, and it is understood that a permanent deal between the Toffees and his parent club, Barcelona, is nearing completion.

The deal is believed to be around £26.6 million, with the 25-year-old reportedly keen to push through the move, as reported by Sport.

Roge made the claim via his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Gomes took a little while to bed in at Goodison Park last season, but once he found his feet he was far and away one of the most important players at Marco Silva’s disposal. The Portuguese ace brought a touch of class to the centre of the park, and alongside Idrissa Gueye, formed a really decent partnership. Signing him on a permanent deal was always going to be touch and go, with interest from elsewhere and a hefty price tag, but if the Blues can get this over the line, it will be a brilliant piece of business. This now feels like a matter of when, not if. For a journalist of Roge’s stature to some out and claim that the deal is at a “very advanced” stage is a very good sign, and seeing as Gomes seems determined to force through the move, there should be no real hiccups. Provided a fee has been agreed, and it sounds as if it has, it shouldn’t be too long before we get that scarf pic that Everton fans have been craving.
