Christian Eriksen’s “standoff” with Tottenham means that Manchester United have re-entered the race to sign Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper claims that Spurs are “very close” to signing the 24-year-old from Sporting CP this summer, but Man United have been able to “regain ground” in the race for a deal due to the North London club being unable to resolve Eriksen’s future.

The Denmark international has confirmed that he will consider leaving Tottenham this summer and Fernandes is clearly seen as a potential replacement by Mauricio Pochettino.

However it is understood that Spurs’ hesitancy has opened the door for Man United to try and sign Fernandes, who is valued at £62.3million by Sporting.

OPINION

Tottenham need to try and offload Eriksen as soon as possible but there have been reports circulating that Real Madrid are no longer interested in the Danish playmaker and would rather sign Manchester United’s Paul Pogba. That is a major issue for Spurs because they clearly have a player who wants to leave, but the main club that have been linked with him are no longer eyeing up a summer swoop. Eriksen needs to be told to get out there and find himself a new club because Spurs face a big blow if they miss out on Fernandes. The former Sampdoria midfielder was in stunning form last season as he scored 32 goals and supplied 18 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. If someone is going to be a solid replacement for Eriksen, then it is going to be him, but understandably, Spurs need to get rid of the ex-Ajax man first.
