Christian Eriksen could be about to perform a major u-turn and stay at Tottenham, according to Spanish outlet AS

The report claims that despite agreeing verbal terms with Real Madrid, the Spanish club no longer want him and that’s led to Eriksen rethinking a new Spurs contract.

There is a four-year deal on the table, worth £103k-a-week, with Eriksen being assured that he would be a key play in the Pochettino rebuild.

However, negotiations could be tough and Daniel Levy has made it clear that he won’t allow Eriksen to leave for free next summer.

Meanwhile, Marca have claimed that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane wants Paul Pogba as his next marquee signing, not Eriksen.

OPINION

This is a great development for Tottenham, who never wanted to lose Eriksen. It seemed for the world like the 27-year-old was on his way out after giving an interview where he said, “I feel like I’m at a point in my career where I might want to try something new”. However, that something new seems to have decided it wants Paul Pogba instead. That move’s not a given, with United wanting to hold onto him, but Pogba himself seems unsettled and would surely push hard for the chance to join Real Madrid. Other sides may well come in for Eriksen but if he’d set his heart on a move to Real Madrid he might have decided that Tottenham represent the next best place for him. The contract on offer would put him on parity with Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli on the second tier of Tottenham players, with only Harry Kane ahead of him.
