Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills is baffled over why Andrea Radrizzani has been reportedly trying to sell stakes in Leeds United.

According to the New York Times, Radrizzani has held advanced talks about potential investment from Qatar Sports Investments, who are owned by Paris Saint-Germain chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Radrizzani sold a portion of his shares in Leeds to 49ers Enterprises last May and ex-Whites defender Mills cannot understand why the Italian businessman has not offered the supporters any kind of clarity about the latest speculation.

“Radrizzani needs to come out and explain what is going on,” Mills told Football Insider. “Why is it being reported he is looking to sell at 10 per cent stake? What is the point? He needs to come out and tell people what is going on.

“Leeds fans aren’t stupid. They need to understand what is happening. They understand talks may be going on and will want to know how it affects the team as they think about season ticket renewals.

“People will accept most things if you tell them the truth. But they don’t like lack of information. That doesn’t matter who you are or where you are. It’s the skullduggery of Radrizzani that fans won’t like.”

OPINION

Mills is absolutely spot on here because there has been a lot of talks from the media about Radrizzani being in talks with QSI, but there has not been anything confirmed by him or the club itself. Leeds have already secured the future of Marcelo Bielsa for another season but what of Radrizzani and Leeds’ summer transfer plans? Bielsa is unlikely to overhaul the squad but he will surely want to make three or four additions and potentially replace anyone who is sold. If Radrizzani is locked in these talks then that could delay any summer business, which can be frustrating for Leeds supporters, especially as most fans prefer to see their club do their signings as soon as possible. The potential investment from QSI could be a good thing for the Whites but the New York Times report also moots a complete buyout of Radrizzani. If something like that is on the cards then surely someone needs to come out and clear things up.
