BT Sport broadcaster Darrell Currie has fired a warning to Celtic over Callum McGregor, after the midfielder was linked with a reunion at Leicester.

According to the Scotsman today, an imminent move for David Turnbull from Motherwell could lead to McGregor making the move to Leicester.

Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers left Celtic last season to move to the former Premier League winners. Now, the Scotsman claims that Rodgers is going to sanction a move for the £10m-rated player in the coming weeks.

Currie tweeted on Friday saying, “Not surprised there’s interest in Callum McGregor, but if Celtic sell him to Leicester there will be a lot of angry fans. Unless it’s for a fortune. And even then…”

OPINION

This wouldn’t go down well at all. The depth of anger over Rodgers’ move to Leicester is still strong, with fans feeling he tarnished his legacy and left the club in the lurch when he announced he was joining the Premier League side. If he were to come back and pillage the team for their best players, Celtic fans would rightly be angry. Currie claims that fans won’t be happy even if they offer a fortune and he’s got a point. But, Celtic are rebuilding, and if they can get a huge price for McGregor, it would leave them in a much stronger position in the summer. Anyone but Leicester, the fans might shout but if the money is right Celtic should take it from where they can get it and try and put the Rodgers debacle behind them. It was an unfortunate end to a pretty stunning run at Celtic for Rodgers but it’s time to bury that in the past and look forward to what’s best for the club now.
