Former West Ham star Jack Collison has heaped praise on current midfielder Jack Wilshere, claiming that he expects to the best of the England international next season.

Wilshere struggled with injuries for much of last term, limiting him to just eight first team appearances, but Collison is hoping for a bigger impact in the coming campaign.

Taking to Twitter, sharing a tweet from the Hammers about Wilshere, he said: “I really think we will see the best of this man next season… and what a player he is”.

OPINION

Jack Wilshere’s ability has never been in doubt. The midfielder has always been one of the finest English talents of his generation, but he has been held back massively by injuries. Without those complaints that have blighted his career, who knows how much he could have achieved for both club and country. Now, at 27, Wilshere is slowly beginning to run out of time at the very top, and nobody will want him to get up and running for the Hammers more than him. If he can do that next year, and the signs are that he is working immensely hard to make sure that he can, then he will be like a new signing for the Irons, and one who can make a big impact too. With Declan Rice and Mark Noble putting in the hard yards behind him, Wilshere would be allowed to roam a little more, letting his creative impulses run wild. That would be a very, very tasty proposition indeed.
