Leeds Jack Clarke is closing in on his move to Spurs, with a medical scheduled in north London for Wednesday, according to Football Insider.

He has been given permission to head to Tottenham later on today with a fee agreed at £8.5million plus add-ons.

Tottenham are also reported to be close to a deal for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, with gianlucadimarzio.com stating that a club-record fee of £55.5million should be accepted.

VERDICT

Jack Clarke might only be 18 with a mixed season under his belt in the Championship, but he is seen as a huge prospect and was name-checked by Gary Lineker as a future England star earlier this year. £8.5million in the current market seems like a steal and Leeds fans will be keen to know two things: how much the add-ons amount to and whether Clarke is going to be loaned back to Marcelo Bielsa for the season. There’s mixed news on this. Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas says he expects Clarke to stay at Tottenham if the deal gets done, with Mauricio Pochettino preferring to develop his own players himself. Meanwhile, the Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon has said that the £8.5million fee could rise to £13million with extras and claims that is “fair enough”. Leeds fans might have been hoping for closer to £15million total but if Nixon is right, the money isn’t far off. Getting the deal done early is good for both sides too. For Tottenham it lets Pochettino evaluate Clarke in a full pre-season. For Leeds, the money can be used to bring in some new players.
