West Brom hold talks with Bilic

|

West Brom have held talks with former West Ham manager Slavan Bilic if the permanent job at the Hawthorns, according to Express and Star journalist Matt Wilson.

The Croatian, who also managed his country for six years, has been out of work since leaving Saudi side Al-Ittihad earlier this year.

It is understood that the Baggies held discussions with the 50-year-old on Tuesday evening, as reported by Wilson on Twitter.

OPINION

This could be a real coup for West Brom if they can pull it off. Bilic is a top quality manager, more than capable of managing in the top flight, and who deserves another crack at English football. There will be those who argue that he was unfortunate to be given the boot by West Ham when he was, and a spell in the Middle East has done little to enhance his reputation. The fact of the matter is, however, that he is too good a boss to be managing in the Championship, and so if Albion can tie him down, it would immediately put them at an advantage going into next season, not just on the field, but also in terms of attracting players this summer too. The other plus point is that Bilic likes to build a project over time. He is no firefighter, and if the Baggies can snap him up, they will know that they have a manager who will be in the job for as long as they want him to be. What an appointment this would be.
