Bilic on verge of West Brom after agreeing terms

|

Slaven Bilic has agreed a deal to take over as manager of West Brom, according to the Sun.

The national newspaper claims the Croatian will take over at the Hawthorns after telling senior officials he is the right man to guide the Baggies back to the Premier League.

The Sun reports that no contracts have yet been signed in regards to the former West Ham man or his backroom staff but that deals should be completed in the next seven days, with Bilic excited at the prospect of taking charge of the midlands club.

Bilic, 50, will return to English football for the first time since being sacked by the Hammers in 2017. West Brom will start their second consecutive season in the Championship soon, with the experienced manager motivated by the prospect of a return to the top-flight.

OPINION

Despite West Brom’s manager hunt seeming to go on forever, you have to give great credit to their work behind-the-scenes. Senior officials were patient in their deliberations and seemed to have settled with Slaven Bilic, who could be seen as a big coup for the club. The Baggies seemed like they were willing to wait on Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, with his future up in the air, but the decision to cut talks with the Premier League man and go with Bilic, who has over 100 games experience in the top-flight seems like a great call. The Croatian seems excited by the task at hand, even though it comes with great pressure after the Baggies failure to earn promotion in their first attempt. Despite making the playoffs, things were not always pleasant at the Hawthorns and Bilic must find a more consistent style of play which will please the fans and more importantly make his side pick up wins at vital points of the season.
