This summer will be the most exciting one Aston Villa fans have had for quite some time. With the Villans back in the big time, and with a wave of optimism sweeping through the club, this feels like the first step in a steady process of reestablishing themselves as a permanent Premier League fixture. If they are to do that, they will of course need to make signings, and it’s good to see that they have seemingly used their time in the Championship to help inform their transfer strategy this window. One name being heavily linked to Villa Park, for example, is Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips, with the Telegraph reporting that the newly promoted side are planning a £14 million move for the midfielder, and Villa fans are delighted by the prospect. To be fair, it’s easy to see why. Philips was a standout performer in the second tier this season and it feels like a matter of time before he ends up in the Premier League, whether that is with United, or with a side that he joins this summer. Villa fans will be hoping and praying that he chooses Villa Park as his next destination, and if he does, they will be landing a top quality player.
