Aston Villa have until Thursday to trigger a clause in Kortney Hause’s loan deal from Wolves that would make the switch permanent, according to the Express and Star.

The 6’3″ defender [Transfermarkt] made 11 appearances for the Villans after going in January, and helped play a key role in their promotion back to the Premier League at the third time of asking.

Any deal to take the 23-year-old to Villa Park on a full-time basis would cost around £3 million, according to the report.

Good move for Villa?

Hause was a really decent addition in the second half of the season, and he has surely earned himself a permanent deal. The defender endured a tricky start at Villa Park, but he bounced back well, and made a series of appearances that more than justified the decision to take a gamble on him in the January window. If the fee is indeed £3 million, then Villa should wrap it up. That kind of money is small change in today’s market, and given Hause’s versatility – able to player at left-back as well as in the centre of defence – he is surely worth the investment, even if it is just as a back-up option.

Likely to happen?

At this stage, you’d be surprised if he didn’t sign, but that being said, the fact that Villa have let the decision come down to the last 48 hours would perhaps suggest that they are unsure as to how they should proceed. Hause has proven himself at the club, and he looks relatively surplus to requirements at Wolves, so that shouldn’t be an issue either. If he doesn’t sign, it would be bemusing, but stranger things have happened.
