Aston Villa are looking for another goalkeeper with Lovre Kalinic’s spell set to end quickly, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper’s print edition (Sunday June 2nd, page 59) claim that Dean Smith is in the market for a top shot-stopper as the 29-year-old Croatian international could possibly be loaned out or sold.

The Sun report that Kalinic joined the Villans in January but was replaced in the first-team by Jed Steer for the promotion run-in due to a mixture of poor form and injuries.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Yes.

Kalinic, who has 18 caps for Croatia, was signed in January to be the club’s No.1 keeper but he was soon deemed not good enough.

The 29-year-old managed only eight appearances for the Villans before being dropped, but it is worth noting he conceded a woeful 15 goals in his outings.

With the Villans set to be in the Premier League next season and Steer clearly head and shoulders above Kalinic, it makes sense to get rid of the Croatian in order to sign someone better.

Smith will want someone good enough to at least keeper Steer on his toes regarding his starting position, and frankly Kalinic isn’t capable of doing that.

Likely to happen?

It’s certainly believable.

After flopping at Villa Park, Kalinic does seem a player who Smith could look to move on.

The only question mark over this deal is who would possibly sign the 29-year-old?

The Sun’s report doesn’t list any potential suitors for Kalinic and that doesn’t exactly make it sound like teams are chomping at the bit to get their hands on him.

With this in mind, it’s hard to guarantee that the shot-stopper is packing his bags anytime soon and that will only change when a team show interest in him.
