Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills believes that Wolves attacker Helder Costa would be a good signing for Leeds United this summer.

Leeds are believed to be interested in making a move to sign Costa from Premier League side Wolves on a potential loan deal ahead of next season, according to Football Insider.

Mills heaped praise on Costa and believes that Leeds will be likely to want to negotiate the option of a permanent move for attacker, if the Whites sign him on loan, if Marcelo Bielsa’s side go on to earn promotion next term.

“He is a very good player and would be a top signing. Technically he is very good, he gets enough goals and will accept the ball in difficult situations. He’s been at some big clubs like Benfica and Monaco, and been through the Portuguese system,” Mills told Football Insider.

“I could see him joining on a loan-to-buy deal based on Leeds getting promotion and Costa getting a bigger contract with a pay rise if they did.

“He will want to play week in and week out after being on the fringes at Wolves last season. He will believe he can make a difference to Leeds in terms of helping them get promoted.”

OPINION

Mills is right to suggest that Costa would be an excellent addition to Leeds if Bielsa’s side can manage to negotiate a potential loan deal for the attacker with Wolves this summer. Costa impressed with Wolves in the Championship since making the move from Benfica on an initial loan deal in the summer of 2016, which was then made permanent in a £13million deal in January 2017. The Portuguese attacker has made 109 appearances for Wolves, registering 19 goals and 19 assists, but he found his minutes limited for Wolves in their first season back in the Premier League last term. Therefore Costa is likely to be wanting to secure a move away from Wolves this summer to get more regular game time, and Leeds could be a very good option for the Portuguese with Bielsa playing the sort of football that he would be able to flourish with next term. As Mills suggests Costa could be the sort of player needed to help Leeds earn promotion next season, and if he does any loan move could be made permanent.
