Leeds United’s dreadful end to the season was their own downfall in many aspects – the main one that comes to mind is their failings in front of goal for the majority of the campaign.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men seemed destined for promotion halfway through the season, but a mix of poor results and even worse finishing led to their demise.

Both Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford suffered serious injuries in the campaign and scored a combined total of 25 goals – the same amount Brentford’s Neil Maupay netted on his own.

Leeds’ total could and should have been so much more – so what does Bielsa do?

According to Football Insider, the Argentine is readying to give Jay-Roy Grot a second chance at Elland Road and the Dutchman could be the Whites’ secret weapon in the Championship next season.

The 21-year-old endured a poor first season at Leeds and was subsequently loaned out to VVV-Venlo. At 6’3″ [Source: Transfermarkt], Grot can be a handful for any defence on his day and Bielsa is ready to give the forward a second chance.

This could prove to be a masterstroke by the Argentine, who transformed Leeds’ squad this season. Should Bielsa be able to do what he did with players such as Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips, Grot could turn out to be the difference for Leeds in their second shot at promotion.

A third striker was what Leeds were missing this season, with both Bamford and Roofe never really looking fully fit towards the end of the campaign.

The Whites missed 65 big chances, the most in the Championship, and with the potential of having a Bielsa trained Jay-Roy Grot raring to go next season, things could be looking up for all involved at Leeds.
